From the beginning, God intended for us to be like Him.
Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. – Genesis 1:26 ESV
I take that to mean that we were created for greatness. It is in our very design to do great things. To be great.
We are spiritual beings with a soul that outlives our bodies.
We have mental capacities that sets us apart from other creatures.
We are capable of love, and kindness, and patience, and basically all the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
I know someone who said “I just don’t have that kind of patience”. Lie. Of course you have that kind of patience, you were created in God’s image! The sooner we accept that – with God – we are capable of more, we are capable of being better, the easier it will be to be more and be better.
The thing with acting apart from God, and sin, is it distorts us. Example: it gives us the sense of being kind that is not true kindness but with a dash of greed in the mix.
God is unchanging, His grand design for you and me has not changed inspite of the many lies we choose to believe about ourselves.
This is your grand design:
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control
